The Garland Road Vision Advisory Committee, or GRV, asked citizens to think about and express their hopes and dreams for the corridor that stretches from the intersection of Garland and East Grand Avenue all the way up to Interstate 635.
Representatives from the GRV conducted an open house Oct. 8 at the First Family Church on Garland Road. Joining them were representatives from the city of Dallas and the North Central Texas Council of Governments, all of whom have partnered to conduct a visioning study for Garland Road in Dallas.
The GRV began in 2006. Gary Griffith, a city councilman at the time, pulled together groups and individuals with a shared interest in the area around Garland Road. The mission of GRV is to oversee an urban planning study and ensure that the wishes of the communities are sought, focused, and implemented.
The GRV also raised $30,000 in donations from individuals, companies, and neighborhood associations for a formal study. In addition, the GRV received a grant from the North Texas Council of Governments, COG, for $120,000.
The total $150,000 will be used to fund an urban study plan and proposal. The city of Dallas and the COG reviewed vendors and selected the urban planning firm HOK Consultants.
